Research Funding Activity 2014-15
Funding schizophrenia research in BC is a high priority for our Foundation. This year we distributed $87,750 with a commitment to spend $225,937 over the next three years.
We are very pleased that we have been able to attract matching grants through the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – which effectively doubled the amount of money we channeled to schizophrenia research.
We are currently funding four multi-year research projects – two that investigate processes at the cell and brain chemical level; one that looks at the side effects of medications; and one that examines the cognitive functioning of people with schizophrenia. We have also approved the purchase of EEG brain imaging equipment used for research.
